Getting A Degree In Phlebotomy

Phlebotomist programs are becoming very popular with graduate students who want to be in the medical field but who do not want to study medicine. A phlebotomist works with blood extraction. They also inject fluids and other drugs to treat their patients.

Phlebotomist programs are becoming very popular throughout the nation. A lot of community colleges as well as state schools are offering phlebotomy courses. In California more than 144 public and 256 private colleges and universities offer phlebotomy courses.

Most schools and universities require people who want to take up phlebotomist training to have completed an undergraduate degree. However, there are some colleges that allow individuals to combine education, specialized training, and on-the-job experience.

A phlebotomist draws blood from patients in hospitals and medical labs as well as takes vital signs, explains procedures and practices safe techniques for storing blood samples. Individual's who want to become a phlebotomist must undergo certificate training at a certified phlebotomist program. The training usually takes around 3 to 6 months.
