The Board of Registry (BOR) is an independent body of the ASCP whose specific mission is to promote the public’s health and safety by certifying the phlebotomists who pass out from the respective schools.
A phlebotomist who has successfully passed the certification test has passed standards in skills and knowledge. These may include human anatomy, human physiology, phlebotomy techniques, pathology, and medical terminology.
Another requirement for phlebotomy certification is the behavior of the phlebotomist towards patients. This is quite important because he or she is the only contact of the patient to the medical laboratory, and they must make sure that the patient knows what is going on in the lab. Apart from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, many other organizations worldwide sponsor phlebotomy certification.
