New Campus Opens to Satisfy Demand for Nurses in Central Valley
Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts, a well known institution for licensed vocational nursing programs, has opened a new campus in Modesto to meet the demands for vocational nursing students.
Modesto, CA (PRWEB) January 18, 2008 -- Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts (GAMA) is making their presence known in Modesto in an effort to meet the demand for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN). Extreme shortages in LVNs throughout California have not slowed, California being tied with Nevada for the lowest nurse-to-population ratio in the United States. Experts say San Joaquin County and the Central Valley is the lowest overall. The good news is, because of that demand, this is the best time in recent memory to become an LVN.
GAMA is a private vocational institution offering quality healthcare programs that integrate professional skills, career-focused education and hands-on practice, empowering students to develop and achieve their personal and career potentials. The brand new Modesto Campus will offer Licensed Vocation Nursing and Phlebotomy programs beginning in February of 2008.
The LVN program at GAMA focuses on physical and psychosocial assessment concepts and skills. Students will learn to utilize new concepts of complex path-physiology in order to provide care for those with acute illnesses and long-term illnesses. While core concepts of the nursing process and teaching processes are emphasized, preventive nursing care will be a focal point. Students will explore the theories and practice of Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health, the role in caring for aging patients both in the home and health care settings, and benefit from a modern and comprehensive learning environment.
GAMA will also offer the Phlebotomy Program in 2008, which will review topics such as anatomy and medical terminology pertaining to the circulatory system, specimen collection, risk factors, complications and quality assurance in specimen collection, and of course, hands-on training in venipuncture technique.
With the need for educated healthcare professionals at an all-time high, institutions are needed more than ever to provide opportunities in education, discover talent, and to produce thorough professional nurses. Students at GAMA will be challenged and instructed in progressive and innovative methods to enable them to excel in the nursing field and will have the ability to provide quality healthcare in many different environments.
