How do I choose a PTA program?

What do physical therapist assistants do?
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) work under the direction and supervision of licensed Physical Therapists.
Do you offer job placement?
We may assist with job placements for all students who successfully complete the program. However, we cannot guarantee employment.
Do students take all the required courses at Gurnick Academy?
No. Gurnick offers only the technical portion of the program. All prerequisites are to be taken at other schools that are recognized by the Department of Education and have either Regional or National accreditation. Transfer of general education courses will be reviewed for transferability.
How long is the PTA Program?

Can I take the coursework part time or at my own pace?
No. The program is designed to be offered sequentially as one course builds upon the other. Please find more info about schedule here: Program Length and Schedule.
Do I have to finish my prerequisites before applying?
No. You can have the final prerequisites you require in progress when you apply. But you must complete them before beginning the program with the required grade. Please find more information in Admission Requirements.
- Where will the clinical experiences be?
We have clinical affiliation agreements with hospitals, clinics, and skilled nursing facilities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to the clinical facilities. Some agreements are corporate agreements which allow affiliations with facilities at a distance or another state, if that is requested by a student.
Is there financial aid available?
Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts participates in various federal and state student financial assistance programs. Please see the Financial Aid section for more information.
