Your Career in Ultrasound Technology

Ultrasound technology utilizes high-frequency sound waves to generate detailed images of organs and systems within the human body. These images are significant in the diagnostic assessment of medical conditions.

Although many people commonly associate ultrasound technology with fetal viewing/obstetrics, there are many different modalities of ultrasound such as vascular, abdominal and small parts, and gynecology. An ultrasound technologist (sonographer) is specialized in one or more areas of ultrasound. The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) enables sonographers to register their specialization.

As technological advancements are made throughout the healthcare industry, ultrasound technology has an advancing role within the medical community.  There are no health-risks associated with ultrasound as the examination uses no radiation. Depending on the type of examination, ultrasound is generally non invasive and is a common diagnostic assessment utilized by medical professionals. In the United States, the demand for utraound sonographers is very high.
