Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts is a leading Bay Area private healthcare college offering an extensive variety of nursing and allied healthcare programs such as: Vocational Nurse, Psychiatric Technician and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN pathway) as well as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician and healthcare programs: Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant, Ultrasound Technology, MRI, Radiologic Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Imaging.
We are currently seeking an NCLEX Integration Coordinator/Instructor for our Vocational Nurse Program at our San Mateo Campus.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach material from approved online curriculum in accordance with assigned textbooks and syllabi
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and retain knowledge related to all aspects of the NCLEX including knowledge of test format, test strategies and latest in NCLEX test plan changes.
- Utilize mentoring skills to help guide students of all levels in achieving their highest scores on online practice exams as defined by the course syllabi.
- Coordinate online content and schedule time for live in-class instruction on a weekly basis by collaborating with didactic instructors
- Demonstrate excellent presentation & communication skills
- Motivate and engage students to actively participate in online discussions, journal entries and computer generated NCLEX tests
- Maintain online asynchronous or synchronous communication with students in online discussions, to assist them in achieving course objectives.
- Troubleshoot concerns surrounding online test generation websites
- Actively monitor and document individual student progress and provide remediation and direction as needed.
- Provide active and ongoing classroom management
- Assist the VN Program Coordinator with the evaluation of courses taught for accuracy and quality; and to enhance course design.
- Assist with the revision of course syllabi, selection of textbooks and other teaching aids as appropriate.
- Supervising the study and learning activities of enrolled students through quizzes, homework review, and class interactive questioning
- Recommending tutoring when appropriate to students
- Providing tips on test-taking and study-habit best practices to the students
- Be able to alter the instructional methods to best meet the student needs in the classroom
- Providing conceptual study guides to each class no later than the class session prior to any scheduled exam
- Using appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication methods while instructing
- Complete a “Didactic Make Up Form” with the student when a student is absent (see make up policy) and updating “absent” status on intranet once assignment is completed by student
- Requesting instructional aides and utilizing available aids to enhance the learning experiences of the students.
- Providing copies of the syllabus to each student on or before the first day of class
- Providing email/ phone access to students to ask questions and be able to get guidelines to enhance their learning activities on or before the first day of class. Provide regular, accurate, and timely student-specific assistance, feedback and support to students relative to their performance.
- Evaluating the academic progress of the students and provide periodic feedback to the Associate Program Director or Program Coordinator (Grades must be entered within 1 week after the assignment due date)
- Taking attendance using the "intranet" in the classroom, 15 minutes after the start of class and also to provide period feedback about attendance – noting ‘lates’ as well as absences within 24 hours
- Developing “remediation” plans for those students who have received non-passing grades or for other reasons to improve students’ academic performance. (Remediation plan should be submitted within 10 working days and in accordance with school policy but the instructor and Program Coordinator will have agreed upon the remediation plan by the last day of the module)
- Participating in regularly scheduled faculty meetings as requested by the Program Coordinator/Assoc Program Director
- Ongoing accomplishment of their continuing education plan (formal, self study, reading, research articles/papers, etc.) and updating the Program Coordinator on progress with a focus on awareness of ‘best practices’
- Participating in “in-service” training sessions and seminars in order to improve teaching styles and techniques. Receive and respond to ongoing training, development, and feedback
- Stay current and up-to-date and compliant and enforce school policies inside the classroom
- Submitting to the program Coordinator, the grading process associated with the instructional plan established for the course(s) being taught no later than one week prior to course
- Participate in the annual evaluation and goal setting processes and periodic updates on goal acquisition with the Program Coordinator
- Registered Nurse
- Baccalaureate or associate degree from an accredited school
- Have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse with a BSN preferred or 6 years of experience as a Registered Nurse with an ASN
- Teaching Credential & Curriculum development courses preferred
