In November 2014, the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) granted the Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts PTA Program accreditation.

CAPTE is an accrediting agency nationally recognized by the US Department of Education (USDOE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). CAPTE grants specialized accreditation status to qualified entry-level education programs for physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.

“It has been a rewarding two years participating in the accreditation process. All the work was worthwhile when this past November 2014, we saw our initial cohort of 19 students graduate from our newly accredited program. We look forward to many more classes of graduates entering the workforce as Physical Therapist Assistants!‌‌‌‌‌‌” said Beverly Tong, PTA Program Director at Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts.

The Commission comprises broad representation from the educational community, the physical therapy profession, and the public. Members include physical therapy educators who are basic scientists and academic administrators; physical therapy clinicians and clinical educators; administrators from higher education; and public representatives.
