Effective July 1, 2020

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Disclosure explains how Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts collects, uses, and shares Personal Information (PI) to conduct daily business. The CCPA Disclosure also describes California residents’ privacy rights regarding the CCPA and how to exercise those rights.

 

Categories of Personal Information We Collect

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts collects PI from the following categories defined by the CCPA.

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts provides educational services for adults and is not directed to anyone under 16. Children under 13 years old are not authorized to provide us with Personal Information. If a parent or guardian believes their child under 13 has provided us with PI, they can contact us using the email address listed on this page or complete the form and request that the PI is removed from our database.

Uses of Personal Information

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts uses the collected PI to provide services related to education, including:

  • Determining that all admission requirements are met and the student’s eligibility for enrollment
  • Processing a student’s enrollment documents
  • Determining a student’s eligibility for Financial Aid or other financial assistance
  • Communication in electronic and written format between the institution and the student
  • Collecting and processing payments
  • Providing Career Services assistance
  • Verifying information such as education and employment records
  • Analyzing program outcomes to provide reports and disclosures as legally required by Accrediting/Approval agencies
  • Processing refunds
  • Applying for licensure on your behalf

 

Disclosure of Personal Information

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts has disclosed PI to provide educational services. Reasons that we may disclose PI to third parties include:

  • Service providers are used to conducting daily business operations. They can use the information to provide specific services and are prohibited from selling it.
  • We may disclose information as required by the law or regulatory agencies. We may also disclose information responding to government entities’ requests, such as law enforcement authorities, or when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical, financial, or other harm, injury, or loss or in connection with a criminal investigation.
  • Upon request, we may share personal information with other third-party agencies. All requested information that is disclosed will be subjected to the third parties privacy policy.

 

Your Privacy Rights

California residents may be able to exercise certain rights.

In some instances, we may decline to honor your request. For example, we may refuse to honor your request if we cannot verify your identity or confirm that the Personal Information that we maintain relates to you or that you have the authority to request on behalf of another individual. In other instances, we may decline to honor your requests unless an exception applies, such as where Personal Information disclosure would adversely affect another individual’s rights and freedoms. We may also refuse to honor your request where the personal information we maintain about you is not subject to the CCPA’s access and deletion rights. You can be free from unlawful discrimination for exercising your rights under the CCPA.

Right to Know and Access — You may request that we disclose to you the following information covering the preceding 12 months from the request:

  • The categories of personal information that we have collected about you and the types of sources from which we collected the personal information
  • The business or commercial purposes for collecting such personal information
  • The categories of personal information that was disclosed to third parties for business purposes
  • The types of third-party recipients to whom we have disclosed personal information
  • The specific pieces of personal information we have collected
  • If we have sold your personal information and the categories of personal data to each category of third-party recipients.

Right to Delete Personal Information — You may request that we delete personal information collected from the preceding 12 months from the request. We will delete personal information with exceptions provided by the CCPA.

Right to Opt-Out of the Sale of Personal Information — You have the right to opt-out of selling your personal information to third parties. Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts is not in the business of selling personal information and does not sell any personal information.

Right to Equal Treatment — You will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights under the law by denying service, increasing the rate, or providing lower service quality.

 

How to Exercise Your Rights

You may exercise your rights by:

We will need to confirm your identity to process your requests and may request additional information. Additionally, you may designate an authorized agent to ask on your behalf. To select an authorized agent to request on your behalf, you must provide a valid power of attorney, the requester’s valid government-issued identification, and the authorized agent’s valid government-issued identification.

We cannot process your request if you provide insufficient detail to understand and respond to it. We strive to respond to a verifiable consumer request within forty-five (45) days of receipt, as allowed by CCPA. In writing, we will inform you of the reason and extension period if we require more time. We do not charge a fee to process or respond to your verifiable consumer request. As stated above, we may deny your request as permitted by law. If we deny your request, we will provide you with the reason for doing so.

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts reserves the right to change or update the disclosure at any time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with a new “Last Updated” date.
