If you’re thinking about starting an X-ray program to become a professional radiologic technologist, you should know four professional radiologic practice areas.
After completing an X-ray program and certification and registration, radiographers can begin a career using diagnostic imaging equipment. They may then use these to produce images of tissue, organs, bones, and other internal bodily areas. There are different specializations radiographers may pursue after X-ray school. These include:
- Mammography
- Computed Tomography Scans
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- And More.
Some students pursue X-ray programs to become sonographers. By and large, sonographers use high-frequency sound waves to create anatomical images. One may also complete an X-ray program to become a nuclear medicine technologist. This vocation involves radiopharmaceuticals and specialized cameras. Whereby these images help to create images of organs that help to reveal their functions.
X-ray school can also prepare one to become a radiation therapist. These therapists use highly-focused radiation forms to treat cancer and other diseases.
All in all, there are many places that X-ray schools can take one after graduation.
Now is a great time to pursue an academic X-ray program. This is because the demand for radiologic technologists is strong nationwide in most healthcare settings. There is a great need, especially in large metropolitan areas like San Francisco and Los Angeles.
X-ray school graduates often work in large hospitals, local outpatient clinics, or rural physician’s offices. In theory, one could potentially move anywhere in the state or country.
After graduating from an X-ray program, one could specialize in dozens of clinical areas, from prenatal care to orthopedics.
However, one doesn’t necessarily have to take X-rays to work in this field. He or she may be responsible for quality assurance, overseeing the implementation of new technology, managing a radiology department, or even teaching. After finishing X-ray school, there are no limitations to your radiology career as long as you are willing to put in the effort.~
