Date: January 11, 2023
“Which is the best state for an X-ray Technician to work?” is a question worth answering. Some have done the research and crunched the numbers. How, then, does your state rate?
Factoring in the hourly rate of pay against regional living costs, author Ron Jones,
provided rankings for each U.S. state. He has determined Wyoming is the most `wallet-friendly state’ for X-ray professionals. According to the article, “Rad Techs—Best States to Work-Cost of Living vs. Salary,” posted by the online magazine, The Radiologic Technologist, the top ten places to live in rank in descending order as follows:- Wyoming
- Washington
- New Mexico
- Texas
- Illinois
- Nevada
- Arizona
- Minnesota
- Delaware
- California.1*
Top Score
According to Jones, the top score goes to Wyoming. The state scored 10th place out of 51 on the cost-of-living scale with an overall score of 90.5, making their hourly pay rate of $26.83* still high enough to rank best for most earnings in the pocket.
Lowest Score
However, Jones says, “The worst score goes to the state of Hawaii. Even a decent hourly rate of $33.64* won’t help when you have THE HIGHEST cost of living in the country.” (Hawaii ranked dead last with an overall score of 190.)1
Honorable Mention
By and large, honorable mention goes to Washington. Even though their high cost of living ranked #38 out of 50 (with an overall score of 109.5), rad techs are paid high enough to enjoy it at $32.11 an hour.1*
