The California MRI Program

Date: May 30, 2023

A California MRI program’s objectives include a couple of essentials. Completing these items will be important before obtaining licensure or certification. First, most often, one must generally complete an official MRI program. Generally, for entry-level work, this is done so at the associate level.

In California, a good MRI program generally offers advanced imaging coursework in computer applications, MRI physics, cross-sectional anatomy, and advanced clinical externships. Often these externships are offered through placements at the radiologic science program’s affiliate medical centers. Generally, MRI training aims to prepare students to be competent in the field of magnetic resonance imaging.

Often, the criteria for admission into an MRI program is that one has an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher in all previous college coursework. While working in the field generally requires one to have trained and graduated from an accredited program approved by the JRCERT.®

Second, after completing an accredited MRI program, one must also pass a national registry certification exam. Said exam tests one’s acumen and knowledge while gauging work readiness. However, states have different licensing and certification requirements. It’s a good idea to familiarize oneself with their region’s requirements.

Finally, to specialize, a radiologic technologist must obtain an application for advanced imaging certificates. He or she must train and learn in the particular scope they wish to be working in. Most often, they may find a listing of these areas and their licensure from their state’s health department.
