Always Going Above and Beyond: Catherine Buettner Spotlight

The Concord Campus Instructor of the Year Award for 2022 goes to Catherine Buettner (RN, MSN), didactic and clinical instructor. Joe Kheuasida, Concord campus interim director for Gurnick Academy, conferred the award for excellence in teaching and outstanding contributions on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

“Buettner has displayed the core values we expect from our instructors and has delivered these values at a high level consistently to our students,” says Kheuasida. “Her willingness to go above and beyond to help the students is a testament to her character. I am honored to be able to deliver her this award. We thank her for her service to our students.” 

A Brief Tenure

In the brief tenure Buettner has been with the Academy, she has fast become the school’s resident BSN program med-Surg expert. “She reaches out to support her students whether they are in her class or enrolled in classes that run simultaneously with hers,” said Shelvia Salvano, Simulation manager and assistant program director for BSN-Concord.

Vast Experience

According to the school, Buettner offers vast experience, which she incorporates into her theory courses. She has taught in med-surg content areas and has extensive knowledge of med-surg with expertise in many specialty units such as ed. Through her employment at Gurnick Academy, Buettner has instructed in Fundamentals of Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing Lab, Health Assessment Theory, Health Assessment Lab, Introduction to Med-Surg, Intermediate Med-Surg, Advanced Med-Surg, and Complex Med-Surg. 

“Catherine is a great asset and contributor to the BSN faculty, says Samantha Manlosa Sanchez, the Academy’s Dean of Nursing. “She has taught many students the core of the nursing curriculum with her Med-Surg experience. We are very fortunate to have her.”
