Prepare For Your College Campus Tour With These Five Practical Steps

Date: August 22, 2022

One of the most important things a prospective student can do when considering colleges is touring the campus. This opportunity allows one to get up close and personal with school life and student culture. It also provides a chance to ask questions and envision yourself learning here.

The more you prepare for your college campus tour, the more opportunities you can find! Consider these five tips while preparing if you’re getting ready to look at potential schools.

1. Do Some Research

Researching a school can answer many questions and set you up for a more successful visit. Browse the school’s website and check out their offering of programs and financial aid information. At Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts, financial aid is available to those who qualify. You can also discover upcoming courses and learn about any required prerequisite classes.

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts has campuses all over California. Visit our different locations. You can choose the location most convenient for you. We even have several online program opportunities if that fit better with your schedule!

2. Compile Questions for Your College Campus Tour

The next step to a productive campus tour is to start a list of questions you couldn’t answer during your research. Some questions to consider may be:

  • How long does each program take?
  • What type of equipment will I be using?
  • What supplies are required?
  • Is an externship offered?
  • Where can I complete my externship?
  • What resources are available to students?

Be sure to talk to instructors and current students on your tour. Ask them what they like about the school, student life, on-campus culture, and what new students can expect. You may have found the right school if you like what you see.

3. Browse Social Media

One can gain a lot of insight by researching online using social media. Looking at a school’s profile before a physical tour lets you see how it engages with its current students and the public.

Social media is a growing tool for academic searches. According to a study by the technology company EAB, 30 percent of students reported they reached college websites from a social media platform.1 You can get social with Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts by following our accounts:

4. Contact the School

When you contact the admissions office to schedule your college campus tour, you have another opportunity to learn about the school. As part of the scheduling process, find out when visitation days are and the process for campus visits. Admissions representatives can help you plan the day, schedule a class sit-in, and ensure you see the campus areas that are most important to you.

5. Bring What You Need

You’ve researched, prepared your questions, and scheduled your campus tour. Now that the day is here, there are a few things you can do to make sure your visit goes perfectly.

You will likely walk a lot, so wear comfortable, supportive shoes. Bring a notebook and mobile phone to record your thoughts and impressions and have pictures to look back on. Keep your question list handy and ask your tour guide to answer them.

Are You Ready for Your School Tour?

Touring a school’s campus allows one to learn more about what it would be like to attend there. One can gain glimpses into a day in a student’s life, talk with staff members and students, explore the school’s facilities, and speak with knowledgeable individuals regarding one’s future program. Doing some research beforehand can maximize and get more out of their visit.

At Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts, we strive to help you gain the knowledge you need to advance your healthcare career. Our faculty, staff, and administrators are qualified professionals who want to support your success and help pursue your learning.
