The Importance of Radiologic Technologists

Date: August 13, 2018

X-ray Technicians or Radiologic Technologists perform diagnostic X-ray procedures in hospitals, physician offices, and outpatient imaging centers.

Whereby a Radiologic Technology program features two–four year’s training and intensive preparation for this field. Training in a Radiologic Technology program is usually divided between classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training. By attending a Radiologic Technology program, imaging students thoroughly know radiographic physics, anatomy, and radiation safety. They also learn about proper patient positioning and technique, quality control, and darkroom skills.

Students will receive infection control, sterile technique, body mechanics, and patient privacy instructions. Soft skills include things like communication and listening. Students must possess good communication skills to demonstrate fast adapting to various situations.

After completing the radiologic technology course, X-ray Technologists are eligible to take a national examination. This examination is comprehensive and tests the X-ray Technologist’s skills. Students may add RT to their name upon successfully certifying and registering. State licensure may also be required in many states for Radiologic Technologists.

Due to the aging population’s healthcare needs, prospects in this field are strong. This increases a Radiologic Technology program’s value. After completing the Radiologic Technology program, many X-ray Technicians and Radiologic Technologists are employed by freestanding imaging centers,  outpatient clinics, and hospitals.
