In eight (8) months, medical skills, professional certifications, and a career launch? Yes, it is possible, and you can make that change happen in the Gurnick Academy Medical Assistant program. Our Medical Assistant program educates and graduates students ready to enter the Medical Assisting workforce. Students learn and practice the skills utilized in outpatient facilities’ administrative (front office) and clinical (back office) sections. Here, students study human anatomy and physiology and are immersed in Medical Terminology used in healthcare today.
Program Length
Our Medical Assistant program takes only eight (8) months* to complete and consists of seven (7) courses. The program enrolls on a rolling basis every four (4) weeks for maximum accessibility. While taking the coursework, a student’s typical day includes didactic lectures and laboratory work. Classes are a mix of hours on campus, balanced by hours completed at home. Each week includes two (2) on-campus sessions, each lasting four (4) hours. Day and evening classes are available, coupled with distance education sessions. This provides time and commuter flexibility for students who work or manage other responsibilities while completing the program.
Our Program Provides
1. Modern Access to Knowledge
We have an eLibrary, a physical library, and classrooms equipped with audiovisual teaching aids, textbooks, and simulators.
2. Special Skills
- Technical–This includes various diagnostic equipment and electronic health records software.
- Clinical–Assist physicians with exams. Perform diagnostic testing, draw blood/give injections.
- Interpersonal–Learn how to communicate with healthcare professionals, patients, and colleagues.
- Career Preparation–Practice job-searching skills, including resume and interview skills. Please take advantage of our placement assistance tools.
3. Practice and Theory
Learn theory and practice lab work under the guidance of an experienced instructor.
4. Clinical Externship
Review your knowledge and practice your skills by helping staff with office duties.
5. Certification
- Upon completion, students should be prepared to sit for the National Exam for Clinical Certified Medical Assistant CMA (AAMA).®
- Students should be prepared to take the National Exam for Certified EKG Technician (CET) upon completion.
6. Career Services
- Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts has a Career Services Department that provides students and graduates with up-to-date career-placement workshops, interview tips, and newsletters with job postings.
