A Word about Scholarship Winners

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts students regularly represent their campuses by reaching obtaining scholarships. Awards represent an array of academic excellence. Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts believes in highlighting its students’ pursuits for funding their education through hard work, traditional loans, as well as scholarships. We wish to highlight a few of our scholarship winners on this page.

Concord Student Selected For ASRT Scholarship


A Gurnick Academy of Medical Artsߴ A.S. in Radiologic Technology student was recently awarded the Royce Osborn Minority Scholarship from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.* Cynthya Cambero, a first-year student, received $4,000 and a certificate honoring her at the Concord Campus on Friday, May 26, 2023. 

“Cynthya has excelled didactically and clinically,” says Elizabeth Rosebrock, A.S. in Radiologic Technology Program director. “She came into the program as a healthcare professional wanting to take the next step of starting her medical imaging career journey!

When asked about the next steps, Cambero says, “Upon passing board exams and obtaining a radiography license, I will prepare for the licensing exams in computed tomography and mammography.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to go to Gurnick,” says the award recipient. “Thanks to Gurnick instructors, I am more prepared and confident as I begin the final half of my program.”~

*The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists® (ARRT),®  the world’s largest credentialing organization, created the Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship to assist entry-level minority students in radiography, sonography, magnetic resonance, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine programs. The scholarship is created in honor of Royce Osborn and funded through an endowment from the ARRT® and contributions from individual donors.

ABHES Award Given to Modesto Nursing Student 

Shari Delgado, Modesto Campus Vocational Nurse (VN) program student, was awarded the 8th Annual Christopher J. Eaton scholarship by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Delgado had the exciting opportunity to attend the 2023 ABHES Conference, where she officially accepted the award on Thursday, March 2, 2023, during the 19th Annual National Conference on Allied Health Education.

The award was conferred at The Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

PTA Student Wins ABHES Scholarship Among Nationwide Applicants

Gurnick Academy PTA Student Awarded $5,000 ABHES Scholarship Among National Applicants

A Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts student was awarded the 7th-annual Christopher J. Eaton Scholarship Award for 2022 by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Samantha Phee, a third-term Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program student from the main campus, received this year’s scholarship at the 18th Annual National Conference on Allied Health Education.

The award was conferred at the Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New Orleans, on Thursday, March 10.

Two Gurnick-RadNet Scholarships Awarded

Two annual Gurnick-RadNet Scholarships were awarded Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts’ Sacramento campus. The award, established in 2019, seeks to reward “RadNet employees in good standing, who have demonstrated the desire, commitment, and ability to further their education, said Chris Gordon, VP of Operations for RadNet Organization’s Northern division.

RadNet Gurnick Academy 2019 Scholarship Winner Christina SanchezChristina Sanchez—The 2019 Gurnick-RadNet educational scholarship recipient was Christina Sanchez, a Patient Services Representative who has worked with RadNet for over 13 years in the Sacramento office. 

This year, she enrolled in the Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts’ Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology program and began coursework on July 6 at the Sacramento campus. Sanchez voiced her desire to enroll in the program because she became “fascinated with how the human body works” as part of her radiology fieldwork.

Kelli Oberto—The 2020 Gurnick-RadNet educational scholarship recipient was Kelli Oberto, a Patient Services Representative and Mammography Tech Aide. She has worked for over two years in RadNet’s Valley Radiology Samaritan office.

RadNet Gurnick Academy 2020 Scholarship Winner Kelli ObertoOberto was nominated for the scholarship and enrolled in the Concord campus’s Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology program. Oberto stated she wanted to go into the program because she has “always been interested in the medical field and the human body” and loves to “take pictures.” As “an X-ray tech, I will be able to be involved in both daily.”~

Van Nuys Radiologic Technology Student Awarded 2020 CAPPS Memorial Scholarship

Van Nuys Radiologic Technology Student Awarded 2020 CAPPS Memorial Scholarship  A Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts student was awarded a 2020 CAPPS Memorial Scholarship. Akram Shafik, currently enrolled in the Associate of Occupational Science (A.O.S.) in Radiologic Technology program, received this year’s California Association for Private and Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) Memorial Scholarship, the Mike Mikhail Memorial Scholarship for Recent Immigrants and First-Generation Americans, on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at the Van Nuys campus.

James Murrell, Van Nuys Campus director and Executive Program director for the Radiologic Technology program, presented the award in front of faculty, fellow students, and his family.

Shafik, a native of Cairo, Egypt, worked as a high school and middle school teacher for nearly 18 years before immigrating from the Middle East in 2012. With a desire to reinvent himself, Shafik initially enrolled in Brightwood College in 2017, then entered the RT program in 2020.~
