Career Outlook For an X-ray Program In California
Date: February 20, 2019
There are many X-ray programs in California, but the most common type is a diploma or degree program. There is also a limited X-ray training program that ranges from one to four years, which will prepare the students for different job possibilities.
The shorter radiologic training programs will typically only prepare the student for the most basic X-ray job. The four-year bachelor’s degree programs are more appropriate for those with experience in the field. Classes may include radiological equipment fundamentals, anatomy, medical ethics, patient care, medical equipment function, and safety during the program.
An X-ray program in California and other states will also require X-ray techs to become certified. Before beginning limited X-ray training, prospective students should consider whether they will be comfortable working with changing technology, have excellent communication skills, and be interested in healthcare.
Students will also succeed in a radiologic technology program if they have a solid understanding of human anatomy and are flexible working in uncomfortable settings. During the radiologic training, there will be challenges, and even more challenges will arise during the job.
Those who are up for the challenge will be glad that they decided to apply for an X-ray program in California, though, because there’s plenty of work in the state for this rewarding career path. The job growth rate for x-ray technology program graduates is expected to be high, similar to the rest of the healthcare industry.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this profession’s median annual salary is between $40,000 and $46,000.* One can complete their training in two (2) years, so it’s a great way to quickly get into the medical field. The pay can be higher than what many four-year degree holders make out of college.
*Salaries are based on many factors, including geography, experience, history, and company culture. This wage may not be your experience.
